The goal for rescues is to be able to place a homeless pet into a forever home. For some dogs that is not always possible. Dogs like Dixie. Dixie was an unclaimed stray, probably dumped, in a rural community in central Nebraska. The police officer that found her, took her to the local vet. She had a microchip, but there was no current information. It was obvious she had been living rough for quite some time.
Filthy, matted fur, fleas, ticks, and emaciated. She could not stand or walk on her own. She had an injury to her eye that limited her vision and a severe heart murmur. The vet clinic estimated her age at 14. Nebraska No Kill was contacted, could we help her? The clinic cleaned her up and did some much-needed dental work.
She was placed in a foster home and provided a safe place, good food, exercise to strengthen her weak legs, and lots of love. Given her age and medical issues Dixie may not be what most would consider adoptable but rest assured, she has a home and the support of Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue for as long as she needs it.
